What food items can you sell from home?

Cottage food laws are intended to streamline some of the processes that are involved in the production of commercial food and make it simpler for home-based businesses to sell food. The regulations governing the sale of food produced in a home setting are known as "cottage food laws," and these regulations differ from state to state. Food sellers who sell food prepared at home are required to hold food-handlers' permits, which are normally issued when a condensed training session is completed. People who sell food that they make at home are prohibited from selling food that promotes food-borne illness. Because of this, business owners are prevented from selling traditional foods such as cheesecakes, ice cream and particular kinds of pies.

Some states set restrictions on the locations where home-based food makers are allowed to sell their wares. People who exclusively sell food at farmer's markets, roadside kiosks, or directly to consumers should take the typical steps to keep their kitchens clean. States cap the amount of revenue that home-based food businesses can bring in before they are required to comply with the regulations that govern commercial food processing. The minimum need is $50,000 in Texas and California.

How Many Items Should a Food Truck Have?

How many items should a food truck have

There's not an exact methodology behind doing this, but some of these tips back here may help you understand why you should have a minimal amount and what you should actually have. Take a look at the board and figure out what we've got going on to get you successful with your food truck. I'm the founder and CEO of Marketing Food Online. When you're in a food truck, it's much different, especially if you've got one, two, or even three people on top of yourself. That's going to be a big problem because of the amount of space that you have available, so take it into consideration.

How long does it actually take to make the product that you want to sell? Next up, margin and which is the most profitable? If you're going to create and make a freshly made product, make sure you stick with one niche. Don't create products that obviously do not coincide with each other, or you'd have to have numerous amounts of ingredients to produce just a few different items. Even though the idea sounds good that you might attract a lot of different people, stick to one type of food product and do it well.

Now, there are a lot of food trucks. You can appeal to a wide variety of people, and you can make an enormous number of tacos, soft tacos, burritos, whatever it may be, but in line with that type of niche product. Having the ability to produce a product or a variety of products with only a minimal amount of ingredients is a great idea. Next up, how fast? Keeping them in and out is the key to profitability.

If a product takes much longer to make, even if it's fantastic, you're not going to have a lot of people standing in line. So, you want to make sure that you can turn over the product fast and quickly. The average food truck menu consists of between five and 10 items. If you can operate your food truck on a minimal skeleton crew but do not sacrifice customer service or the quality of the product, you are going to make some serious money. The more people you have, the more payroll and the less space you're going to have for ingredients.

Keep in mind that if you can do it with one or two of you, fantastic. If it takes four to five of you - it's not going to be very profitable.

What all equipment is needed in a food truck

What all equipment is needed in a food truck

What equipment is required on a food truck? Damien Roberti, founder and CEO of Marketing Food Online, explains. Clicklease.com is a place to go if you're looking to lease any type of food truck equipment that you need to get up and running. There's no hard credit pull with clickleasing.com and they have no time and business requirement. When you're starting your food truck business, you are going to need a three compartment sink.

The biggest expense, second to only a food truck itself, is the equipment purchase. You may have to figure out which one is best for you. Of course, your health department will tell you more, specifically, about that. The Department of Agriculture required food trucks to have a three compartment sink, a hand washing sink and a mop sink. Most food trucks don't necessarily have a requirement for the  sink, per se.

Next up, no matter what kind of food product you're actually going to make or produce or sell, you've gotta have shelves. If you're going to have a food truck, you need to have some type of prep table, a three compartment sink, a hand wash sink, and a boiler system. If you're making gelato or hot dogs or tacos, you also need a prep table. No matter what you make, you'll need a fridge or a freezer or a refrigerated freezer unit. The most important aspect of a food truck is to have power, obviously.

A refrigerator and freezer are must-have items that need to maintain their temperature and be frozen. You can get a gas powered generator or a propane or even a solar panel one. If you're doing desserts or ice cream, or if your food truck is selling prepackaged foods, which you can do as well. A lot of food trucks in certain cities and counties are required to do all of the prepping in a commissary or commercial kitchen prior to going out for the day. Now, with that being said, you may or may not need a gas range, the type of cooking pans and sauce pans, and things of that sort.

Check out clicklease, they are able to get you up and running with those large purchases of food truck equipment. They specialize in doing those large equipment purchases, but remember it is a lease, not a loan. Check them out and then let us know what you think about any of the things that you've got in this video.
