How many items should you have on your food truck menu? There's not an exact methodology behind doing this, but some of these tips back here may help you understand why you should have a minimal amount and what you should actually have. When I had my brick and mortar bakery, of course, we had a lot more space obviously than a food truck, but the drawback was is that I kind of dove into a very big menu of select of items from panini sandwiches to cookies and pastries cans, gelato, ice cream, fresh breads, and catered events. When you're doing a food truck event, you've got people lined up. They're gonna wanna wait only a couple of minutes, get their food in their hand and be on their way.

That's gonna be a big problem because of the amount of space that you have available. Take into consideration. How long does it take to make the product next up margin and the most profitable? One of them is how versatile are your ingredients? If you have, let's say 10 ingredients, you can create 14 different items, but all of those ingredients go in some type of mixture or some different type of way to create a line of products.

Next one up is stick with one niche. Now there's a lot of food trucks. You can appeal to a wide variety of people and you can make an enormous amount of tacos, soft tacos, burritos, whatever it may be, but in line with that type of niche of product. You don't have to have 50 or 60 different ingredients, you can do it with 10 or 12 different ingredients. That is fantastic because you'll be able to push through ingredients, every single event that you go to and it will be consistent.

How fast you keep customers in and out of your food truck is the profit key to the profitability, understand that the quicker and faster you can produce these products, the better off you are financially. You're going to make more money, the key to any food truck event or any mobile event for that matter. The average food truck menu consists of between five to 10 items. Stick to about five to 10, do some experimental runs, go to an event, have five to ten. Keep in mind that if you can operate your, your food truck on a minimal skeleton crew, but you do not sacrifice obviously customer service or the quality of the product, you are gonna make some serious money. Some cities and counties do have variations on permits and licenses, but the bulk of what I'm about to tell you is pretty much what you're gonna need. Most states require some entity status like a C Corp SCOR for LLCs but at LLCs it costs a lot less. I've been a food entrepreneur for over a decade, 12 years, actually, my wife and I operate our own food business.

And normally most food truck businesses kind of like our business, actually, my wife and I started it and we still run it ourselves. You need to get a business license, of course, a simple business license from the city that you're gonna operate in. You need to double check with your city on that. If you cross over those lines, you're technically operating a business in your entity, in another city or county. That food truck is your actual business, and you need to make sure everyone has a valid driver's license in order to operate it.

You have to get a sellers permit and a food handler's permit to drive a food truck. Some states don't have any taxes based upon the types of foods and even food in general. You're bringing together ingredients, bringing together proteins, meats, whatever it may be. You don't need to be paying sales tax when you buy your ingredients. You'll also have to pay for your health department permit, which can cost anywhere from about a hundred to about $150.

The fire department, like any other type of restaurant is actually gonna come in and double check your, your actual food truck and make sure everything's wired correctly. Most states and including New Hampshire will also require a commissary letter of agreement for the food truck to be designated to use. If you're gonna start a food truck in New Hampshire, I just gave you nine really great tips and information to help you out. You may actually need to have a commissary letter of agreement. Some places will charge you a little bit extra fee, but it's a great safe way to park your food truck and leave it there for the day.
