Can I Make Food and Sell it Online
Posted by Damian Roberti on
Most states won't allow you to produce a product in a commercial kitchen and then bring it home, and then sell it and ship it online. So, you need to find out from your city or your county where you're going to get your business license. Food businesses are totally different from the world of selling other things that are not edible. If you're looking to create your own food product and then want to ship it across state lines, you have to, of course, do that in a commercial kitchen. In order to make this effective and profitable, you need to produce as much of that product that you're producing as possible.
When it comes to creating a price point for your product, you want to make sure that you understand the cost of renting the commercial kitchen, plus your packaging, labeling, and everything else that goes along with it. Fiverr is a website where you can hire someone for anywhere from $10 to $15 to even $25 just to make a great simple logo. If you're going to start selling your product online, do you sell it on an existing platform like Amazon, Etsy, or eBay? Do you create a store on Shopify, or even Weebly, or GoDaddy? I highly recommend you be in as many places as you can at once.
So, I've got my websites, maybe I'm on some of these platforms, but I'm not getting a lot of sales and traffic. You need to market it, you need to promote it. If you want to run basic, simple Facebook ads, I recommend you do that. Every product is different and you need to be careful about what type of packaging you use. If you're selling something that's a fermented item that's been sealed, you don't need ice packs.
Glass jars or glass packaging? Be very, very careful with those types of packaging. Amazon, Etsy, or eBay have their own payment processors built-in. How are you going to handle a product that is potentially damaged? Do you know how to handle either refund?
Or if you're going to rescind it, you need to be on top of your customer service. And can I make food and sell it online? I definitely want to look into it.

Is an Online Coffee Business Profitable
Posted by Damian Roberti on
In order for this to work, you need to sell $30 worth of coffee. That is your average sale price per transaction on your own website, on Amazon, on eBay, or Etsy. Once you reach that, you're only needing to get 11 to 12 transactions a day. We have six websites and we are on eBay, Etsy, Amazon, and so on. If you're on all of them, I'd say you'll get anywhere from 30 to 40 transactions per day as you build your business.
You'll easily exceed $10,000 in gross sales per month for your coffee shop. If you had 11 transactions at $30, or let's just say five transactions, and you cut that in half and you had 60, 70, or $80 on one transaction, you're already ahead of the game. It's something that's very simple to do because you're going to have that customer paying every single month. You only need to be making a certain amount of money a day and that achievement will get you to 10,000. Discounts, sales, and coupons are tremendous ways to drive even more sales, okay?
Post consistently on Facebook, post consistently on Twitter, use hashtags within those social media, like # coffee, # Starbucks, # espresso. If you sell coffee on Amazon, you'll be doing $130,000 a year in coffee by the end of the year. It's also a great way to scale your business. Amazon can scale any business dramatically in a shorter period of time, if you do it that way.
