Cameroon's impressive run to the quarterfinals of Italia '90 comes to mind every time their name is on the list of countries competing in a World Cup.
Roger Mila and his team won their group and beat Colombia in the last 16 to advance to the last eight in Naples. In the last eight, they famously faced England. Even though Cameroon lost to Sir Bobby Robson's team in extra time, they left their mark on the world stage, and they have only missed one World Cup since then.

But since 1990, they have always lost in the first round. In their last five tournaments, they have only won one of their 15 group-stage games, which is a huge disappointment for a giant of African football.

Andre Onana, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, and Bryan Mbeumo are some of the biggest names. All three of them play for top clubs in Europe.
The youngest player on the team is 15-year-old goalkeeper Simon Ngapandouetnbu. Christopher Wooh and Marou Souaibou, both 21, are also on the team.

The Lyon striker is a key part of Song's plans, and he has shown himself to be a good player in Ligue 1 after being a bit player at Villarreal.

Andre Onana's return to goal is also important. Andre-Franck Zambo-good Anguissa's play in the Champions League has prepared him for the World Cup, and Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo is making a name for himself on the international scene.
Song's best players are Ekambi and Onana, and the former Liverpool defender relies on them at both ends of the field.
But if Mbeumo can keep up the form he showed in the Premier League, he could be a real threat in the attack. Udinese right back Enzo Ebosse is also an exciting addition.
Strengths: Song's trip to Qatar will be helped by the fact that Ekambi, Mbeumo, and veteran captain Vincent Aboubakar are all good attackers.
But he will have to make sure that the midfield unit behind them is balanced so that Zambo-Anguissa is not too busy.
Weaknesses
Cameroon's defense was strong during qualification, but there is a question mark over their backline's depth, which could throw a wrench in their plans if they get hurt.

Brazil is a very strong favorite to win Group G. Cameroon won't be scared off by the challenge of Switzerland and Serbia, though. All three teams are fighting to join Brazil in the round of 16.

Can Cameroon switch out players on its World Cup team?
Once the final roster of 26 players is set, teams that are going to the World Cup can only make changes before the first game, and only if something really bad happens.
The official rules of the tournament say that a player on the final list can only be replaced if he or she is seriously hurt or sick up to 24 hours before the first game of his team.
The team in question would have to send a medical report to FIFA, and if the world governing body decides "the injury or illness is serious enough to keep the player from playing in the FIFA World Cup," then the replacement player will be allowed.
