In Ypsilanti, Michigan, Tom and James Monaghan launched Domino's Pizza in 1960. The firm initially consisted of a single store called "DomiNick's," but James gave Tom his part in exchange for a Volkswagen Beetle. Tom changed the name of the business to "Domino's Pizza" and started growing the franchise.

Domino's had more than 200 locations by the 1970s, and by the 1980s it was the largest pizza delivery chain in the country. Currently, there are more than 18,000 Domino's Pizza restaurants worldwide, the majority of which are found in the United States.


Over the years, Domino's Pizza has consistently performed well in terms of sales. The business recorded $3.3 billion in sales and a net income of $464.9 million in 2020. This is an improvement over the prior year, when the business posted a net income of $369.2 million and $2.9 billion in revenue.

In recent years, Domino's Pizza has also been expanding its menu and offerings, including mobile and online ordering as well as delivery by drones and robots in some areas. The business is still a big participant in the pizza delivery market and is well-known all over the world.
