How much can you make from selling domains

How much money can you make flipping domains? Is domain flipping still profitable? So recently, I made a video to explain to you another source of income that I have online. It doesn't happen instantly. And in this video, I'm going to give away a full tutorial. We're going to explain to you how to flip domains, how much you can potentially make from them, show you proof from my own account, and break down which domains are most profitable and which level domains you should really be going after. This is going to be a full tutorial, so if you want to learn from head to toe exactly how this works, watch from the beginning all the way to the end. I'm going to break it down step by step and literally walk you through everything you would need to know in order to sell domains.

How much can you make from selling domains

And we're going to get into that right now. All right, guys, so welcome back to Marketing Food Online. So this video's gonna be a little bit different than my traditional food entrepreneurship videos because I'm gonna explain to you in much more detail than I did in my first video, which we got a lot of comments asking, "A little bit more detail, Damien." How does this actually work, and how do you do this? "" So I decided to create a full-length tutorial, explaining to you from the get-go all the way to the end, how this actually works, flipping domains and website domains. I'm going to break down step by step what you can do and how you should do it and understand the process and also understand which domain names, what industries, actually make the most money and how you can actually do this for yourself. So if this is your first video, definitely hit the subscribe button. We've got tons, actually about a thousand videos here on Marketing Food Online to help the food entrepreneurs and a handful of other types of businesses that we operate online through e-commerce. I've been online for about 14 years, and I have a full-time business making six figures doing what I do, so I created our channel to explain to you what I do in case you want to do what I do. So let's dive right into it. So the first thing this video's going to cover is how much money can you make flipping domains? We're also going to cover: is domain reselling profitable? Is domain investing profitable? Believe it or not, you can actually invest in domains and hold them. And over time, believe it or not, like a stock, they do increase in value or have the potential to increase in value.

How much can you make from selling domains

Also, how can I sell my domains fast and which domain reseller is best? because there are numerous I just did a little bit of research to find out more, above and beyond GoDaddy and Flippa. I'm going to go through an entire list of websites that you can actually sell and flip your domains on. So let's dive right into it. Number one. So what is a domain extension? All right, so first off you need to understand, truly, what a domain name is. So you have a www and then you have a dot, and then in the middle is going to be the name of the domain. And then you either have a.com or a dot-extension, which I'll get into in just a second. There are variations, by the way, if you didn't know..com is not the only extension for website domain names. So the domain is actually going to be that middle part of the website address, okay? Everyone, of course, has the www, but the last part of the extension and the middle of the domain name are the two variables that can actually vary and change depending upon what it is that you need it to do. So that is step one. Step two: What are the top-level lift domains? It's going to be the part at the end that has a dot and then the following. So the top-level domains you want to look for are.com, .org, .net, .us, .biz, .blog, and.io.

How much can you make from selling domains

Now, there are other variations, but these are the ones that are absolutely the most popular, basically from the top most popular down to the least, but you could still flip 'em with these different extensions, but many of them will vary as far as the values are concerned based upon that. Okay, a.com is obviously the most well-known extension, if you will. Plus, it lends itself to commerce for the most part. Things like.org, if you were doing a.org extension, that's mostly for organizations and such. If it happens to be a local community organization, or even a commercially represented organization,.orgs are always going to be those types of endings. Now, you also have.net, .us, and.biz. And of course, there's about, I think, 13 or 14 other extensions, but these specifically are gonna be the ones that you're gonna be the most interested in, okay? So, step three, from most valuable to least valuable. So the top three that I'm going to give you have the most value based upon the research that we've actually done and plus the research I've looked into before I started doing this as a side business..com, .org, and.net are going to be the top three, as far as values.

How much can you make from selling domains

For now, that doesn't necessarily mean that other extensions, like.io, can't potentially be more valuable, but in the marketplace, for the most part, the number of extensions and websites that have those three, that have been sold over the past couple of decades, has the tendency to make more money. But of course, like I said, there have been some tech companies that have.io's where the websites and the domains themselves are considerably valuable. So do keep that in mind, but these are the top three extensions. So at the www-dot-domain name-dot-extension at the end, those are going to be the three. Next up, step four. most valuable industry This is actually something that's based upon the values that are attached to these website domains or the potential for the domains to be built out as a website and have really significant value. Now, one thing really quickly, as a side note. Understand this. The domain name itself has value to someone somewhere, right? But one of the most important things to know is that the domain, if you build it out with a website and that website becomes very valuable because it has high traffic, maybe it offers great content, or it has a lot of value outside of just the domain name, will obviously have a direct correlation and be directly related to the value of the domain name. What does that mean? So ww.money.com. Here's an example: money.com. And that's a website that someone has built out that has a tremendous amount of information on how to manage money, finances, how to invest, and so on.

How much can you make from selling domains

All of that becomes truly That's digital real estate that becomes valuable, okay? All of that content really becomes something that's of value. So the domain name is kind of a starting point, really, for a website in the future, and it has the potential to be built out, and not only the domain... If you had purchased one for a hundred thousand dollars, let's say, and the domain name was www.investinmoney.com, and that just sounded really great. It has a lot of... It's really easy to remember, but then somebody builds a website. Well, that hundred thousand dollar domain name has the potential to turn into a million or two or three, $4 million website because of the value that it could potentially bring. So understand that the domain names are really kind of a starting point, okay? So what are the highest-value industries? Here we go. E-commerce, insurance, marketing, money, finance, and legal. Now, these are ones that we've done, obviously, research on on our end. You may find others, or you may have your own opinions about the most valuable, but all in all, those are very good starting points. Anything dealing with finances or money, legal issues, or even attorney's websites and such, investing, E-commerce is gigantic because it's an obvious and fastly growing part of e-commerce... of being online. But all of those domains, if they're tied in some way, shape, or form to those specific industries, have really high values, okay? All right, so as I mentioned, next up, this is going to be step five.

How much can you make from selling domains

So this is going to be where to buy a domain name and where to sell a domain name online. Now, many of the questions are, like I mentioned in the introduction, where can I sell a domain fast? You need to understand something, that in the marketplace of domains, this is, again, from my own experience, you have a tendency to invest and buy in it, and then you want to list it. You need to give it a few months to kind of work its way into the system. This is not something you're going to buy on a Monday and then flip it on a Friday and make it. To be honest with you, that's not realistic. So you want to understand this... If you want to build a business by doing this, it is just that. It's going to take a little bit of time. Be patient and learn as much as you can. Hopefully, this video, obviously, is going to be very informative for you, but you can learn even more outside of the video that you're watching right now and understand that it's like a business. It takes time to start, develop, and grow it, and then make it work. Now, I said I'd go over to my laptop in a moment. I'm going to show you that we've actually invested in... We have about a hundred and... I think about 160–170 domains total. We have about two or three dozen of them right now on marketplaces, and I'll show you in a moment where we do that and that we have available for people to buy. Now, here is the list, so let's go over it. Step five: Where can I buy and sell domain names? Let's do this. So for number five, you have HostGator, Wix, GoDaddy, Flippa, SnapNames, Sedo, BizBuySell, eBay. Namecheap is another great one, by the way, where you can sell your domains online. They even have one called Domain, which is actually pretty easy to remember, but Domain is a great place to sell website domains. BrandBucket, FD, and Afternic. So the two specifically out of the list I just listed, in order for you to sell domains online and make it a profitable business, are really going to be GoDaddy.

How much can you make from selling domains

For me, at least, GoDaddy and Flippa are These are the two that are kind of like the biggest, in a sense, but the most well known. My account specifically is actually set up with GoDaddy, so I'm going to show you the domains that I have and also show you how we actually launch them onto the auction site itself. Now, you might be thinking, "eBay?" So that's something you want to think about as well. I've actually noticed there are a lot of people who sell the domains on eBay. Just keep in mind, though, that eBay's platform is not set up to transfer ownership of the actual domain. So that has to be done outside. Normally, you don't list it on there and then actually transfer it directly from eBay. So just keep that in mind. What's really cool about Flippa and GoDaddy when it comes to flipping and selling domain names is that they have the built-in ability to do that, and through their automation and through their platforms, the actual transferring of the ownership of the website is completed. You get your money and such. So there's a little bit more to it. So just keep that in mind. But of course, all of them that I just listed, you have the ability to sell on. Now, not every single website that I just listed, you can buy and sell and do both of those, but you can on GoDaddy for sure. Wix is a great one as well. Weebley.com is another place where you can buy domain names and then flip them on GoDaddy or Flippa. So let's take a walk over, and let me get my laptop out, so I can show you the last little bit of this information and help you understand what you can do through domains.

How much can you make from selling domains

All right, so here we've got... We're into my account here on GoDaddy. I'm actually going to show you the listing, a handful of the actual domains that I currently have. And then I just got a notice about having a domain called LeverageTube, which is kind of affiliated with YouTube online, with marketing and such. I'm actually getting ready to list that. So I'm going to walk you through this listing process in just a second. So here's a handful of the actual current domains that I have and the pricing. For instance, this one I paid So far, I've paid $19.99 for the annual renewal. Now, on really quick notice, I was actually going to tell you guys that as you hold these every year, you need to renew them, or they will expire. What I love so much about GoDaddy and such is that there is an automated renewal feature that you can actually have set up for each domain. So every year, once it goes to renew, it actually gives you about a four or five-day window. It'll email you and say, "Hey, you've got certain domains that are about to expire, but they're going to renew automatically." Then, they just debit my account, and they renew it for each annual year. So that's something that's really cool about GoDaddy; just something from my own experience, and I enjoy it. I don't have to necessarily keep paying it and overpaying it over and over or do some separate transaction. It automates itself. So here's a handful more, as I mentioned. This one was a daily driver. Again, like I mentioned before, insurance.

How much can you make from selling domains

That's a huge industry. This one's worth about 1500 bucks. I think I paid, so far, around $19.99 or something like that for that. The same goes for this one, dokpop. This is about some popcorn websites. It's a $1,300 domain. This one here, ecommonthly, is a website I'm getting ready to launch. That's going to be available. I'm not going to sell this one in particular because it's actually some information... informative website about e-commerce. This one has a value of around 1200 bucks. And of course, you go through here, some are 700, 900... $1,200 for this one, too, foodtop10. Foodtruckfreaks, that's one I just launched. This is about e-commerce, Iamecom. This one's worth about $1,200. Leveragetube, as I mentioned, has a potential value of around 1300 bucks. And so on. For Manbars, this was actually one I was going to build for protein bars for men. This one's available too at 1300, and so on and so forth. So you can actually take a look. $1,200. A lot of these are related to the food industry, as I mentioned, which is really cool too. So anything that you do, as far as finance, money, or any of that sort, make sure that it's something that can make people money or be informative or educational, because websites like that are worth a lot more. Now this one's new as well: snack.com. Snackcom, this is worth about $1400. 1200 for this one, spicycorn. That was a popcorn website. So there's a handful right there of what we've got available. Let me walk you through, guys, how we do this. So we're going to list our domain. Let's see what we have... Let's see. We'll go up here; let's get started. So set your buy now price. So you can actually come up with a buy-now price. The estimated value's around 1300, and I'm actually going to put it at 1500 for now. We're basically going to type out a round amount of money. You don't have to put a decimal, by the way. And let's see. We can just scroll down and publish the listing. So it's going to take just a second to list the domain. And this goes right out to... Success! We have submitted your listing. And then, that's what I was talking about before. Afternic is part of, actually, GoDaddy. So you're all set, and you're good to go. I want to refresh my page, and that should go away. It's still there, okay. So it's going, it's uploading. All right, so that is basically how you do it. Now, once it's live, it's going to be on their Afternic marketplace. So from there, you basically kind of wait and sit back until someone's either interested or makes an offer. You can counter-offer them too, and so on.

So there you have it... That's how easy it is, guys. You basically create it, you buy it, and remember that it's an annual renewal, so every year you're probably going to get billed out either 19 or $14 or whatever. So on average, when I buy mine on weebley.com, they're around 1499. GoDaddy happens to be... I think the first year is, like, $12.99 and then $19.90. That is it. Once you get an item that sells, you'll get notified. And from there, you'll have the opportunity to transfer it and get it over to its new owner and make money. So remember too, if you're going to create this as a business, as I scroll through here, every year that you renew these, that's an expense. So if your business, if your LLC is, you know, domain flipping... Damian's Domain Flipping LLC, keep in mind that these are expenses. So as you accumulate them and hold them for a certain period of time, if it happens to be more than a year or less, all of those expenses you put towards it are also expenses for the business itself. Let your accountant know. So, if you accumulate four or $500 in a year to renew, you know, dozens of websites, those are expenses that can be written off, potentially. So definitely take a look at that as well. So that is the full tutorial on what to expect and how to understand domain flipping. So if you're in business and you want to create a business by flipping domains, that's pretty much everything you need to know. Of course, you can now play around with different domain names and different types.

Make sure that you find something that's obviously going to be of potential value, and you can also check them as well. Now, let me show you that really quickly. As a matter of fact, now that I mentioned it, Let me show you their domain check. Click it right here. Okay, Domain valuation by GoDaddy I probably spelled that wrong. That's right. Domain value. There it is. Okay, So as you go over here... Here's where you can enter GoDaddy has a great feature too, if you want to check the value of a potential domain before you actually buy it. So if it was like money, This is probably obviously taken. www.money.com. There it is. So yeah, there it is, money.com. The estimated value is around $25,000 for that one named domain. It's definitely something you want to keep in mind. And someone actually owns this one, obviously. But let me show you, this is pretty cool too. If you go down here, you can see that Remember, we talked about the extensions. There are also different types of extensions that may be available, okay? This one is.online, .co. Money.beauty's a $900 value. This one's worth around 6,000. Wow, that's pretty crazy..site and.store, okay? And then, remember, we mentioned before about the.io? That's what I said. Yep, there it is. Money.io was sold for $7,300. So these are actually domains that have literally sold. This is great; I'm glad I pulled this up, so you guys can see this. This one here, money.shop, is great for selling certain products related to money, if it's tutorials or digital downloads. That one recently sold for $18,000, guys. Spend.com sold for more than $25,000. So I'm not making up these numbers. I'm telling you the truth. If you've got about 20 bucks and you could flip some of these websites, you're going to be making a few grand or even more. So if you have any more questions about how to make a profitable business selling domains, and whether they are actually profitable, Is it profitable to sell domains online? Yes, guys, it is. Just get educated, understand the method, and be patient. You can make money as well. So I'll see you guys on our next video.
