Is it still profitable to flip domains?

So I recently made a video to explain another source of income that I've had for over 14 years online. I've created multiple sources of income for myself and my family. And domain slipping is one way that is truly a profitable business. But it does take time. It doesn't happen instantly. And in this video, I'm gonna give a full tutorial. We're gonna explain to you how to flip domains, how much you can potentially make from them, and I'm gon na show you proof from my own account. And break down which domains are most profitable, and at which level you should really be going after them.

This is going to be a full tutorial. So if you want to learn from head to toe exactly how this works, watch from the beginning all the way to the end. I'm going to break it down step by step and literally walk you through everything you would need to know in order for you to sell domains. And we're going to get into that right now. Alright guys, welcome back to marketing food online. So this video is gonna be a little bit different than my traditional food entrepreneurship videos. I'm gonna explain to you in much more detail than I did in my first video, which we got a lot of comments asking for a little bit more detail. Damian, how does this actually work and how do you do this?

Is it still profitable to flip domains?

So I decided to create a full-length tutorial explaining to you, from the get-go, all the way to the end, how this actually works. I'm going to break down step by step what you can do and how you should do it and understand the process and also understand which domain names and which industries actually make the most money, predominantly, and how you can actually do this for yourself. So, this is your first video. Definitely hit the subscribe button. We've got tons, actually about 1000 videos here on marketing food online to help the food entrepreneurs and a handful of other types of businesses that we operate online for about 14 years, and I have a full-time business making six figures doing what I do. So I created this channel to explain to you what I do and put it in case you want to do what I do. So let's dive right into it. So the first thing this video is going to cover is how much money can you make flipping domains. We're also going to cover is domain reselling profitable.

Isn't domain investing profitable? You can actually invest in domains and hold them and over time, believe it or not, like a stock, they do increase in value or have the potential to increase in value. Also, how can I sell my domains fast? Which domain reseller is best because there are a tonof them? I just did a little bit of research. To find out more, above and beyond GoDaddy and Flippa, I'm going to go through an entire list of websites that you can actually sell and flip your domains on. So let's dive right into it.

Is it still profitable to flip domains?

Number one, so what is a domain extension? So first off, you need to understand what a domain name really is. So you have a www and then you have a dot. And then in the middle is going to be the name of the domain, and then you either have a.com or a dot extension, which I'll get into in just a second. There are variations, by the way, if you didn't know.com is not the only extension for website domain names. So the domain is actually going to be that middle part of the website address. Okay, everyone, of course, has the web. But the last part, the extension in the middle of the domain name, is the two variables that can actually vary and change depending upon what it is that you want. To do so So that is step one. Step two.

What are the top level left domains going to be the part at the end that has a dot and then the following? So the top level domains you want to look for are dot com, dot org, dot net.us, dot biz, dot blog, and dot I O. Now there are other variations, but these are the ones that are absolutely the most popular, basically from the most popular to the least popular. But you can still slip them with these different extensions, but many of them will vary as far as the values are concerned, based upon that okay.com is obviously the most well known extension, if you will, plus, it lends itself to commerce for the most part, things like.org If you were doing a.org extension, that's mostly for organizations and such. If it happens to be a local community organization, or even a commercially or representative organization, dot orgs are always going to be those types of Indians.

Now you also have dotnet.us and dot biz, and of course, there's about I think 13 or 14 other extensions, but these specifically are going to be the ones that you're going to be the most interested in. Okay, so step three, most to least valuable. So the top three that I'm going to give you have the most value based upon the research that we've actually done and plus the research I've looked into before I started doing this as a side business, business.com.org, and documents are going to be the top three as far as value. Now, that doesn't necessarily mean that other extensions like.io can't potentially be more valuable. But in the marketplace, for the most part, the number of extensions and websites that have those three that have been sold over the past couple of decades has the tendency to make more money. But of course, like I said, there have been some tech companies that have done iOS. The websites and the domains themselves are considerably valuable. So do keep that in mind. But these are the top three extensions. So, at the end, there's the WWW dot domainname dot extension. Those are going to be the next four, highest valued industries. This is actually something that's based upon the values that are attached to these website domains or the potential for the domains to be built out as a website and have really significant value. Now, one thing really quickly aside, to understand this, the domain name itself has value to someone somewhere, right. But one of the most important things to know is that the domain becomes very valuable if you build it out with a website and that website becomes very valuable because if there's high traffic, maybe it offers great content. It has a lot of value outside of just the domain name, which obviously will have a direct correlation indirectly related to the value of the domain name. What does that mean?

Is it still profitable to flip domains?

So that'd be w.money.com. Here's an example: money.com And that's a website that someone has built out that has a tremendous amount of information on how to manage money, finances, how to invest, and so on. All of that becomes truly digital real estate that becomes valuable. Okay, all of that content really becomes something that's valuable. So the domain name is kind of a starting point, really, for a website in the future and it has the potential to be built out and not only the domain. Let's say you purchased one for $100,000 and the domain name was WW dot invest in money.com. And that just sounds really great. It has a lot that is really easy to remember. But then somebody builds a website. Well, that $100,000 domain name has the potential to turn into a million, two, or three $4 million websites because of the value that it could potentially bring. So understand that the domain names are really kind of a starting point. Okay, so what are the highest valued industries? Here we go. E-commerce, insurance, marketing, money, finance and legal. Now these are ones that we've done. Obviously, with research on our end, you may find others or you may have your own opinions about the most valuable, but all in all, those are a very good starting point. Anything dealing with finances or money, legal issues, or even attorney websites and such. Investing in ecommerce is gigantic because it's like, obviously the fastest growing part of e-commerce being online.

But all of those domains, if they're tied in some way, shape, or form to those specific industries, have really high values. Okay, All right. So as I mentioned, next up, this is going to be step five, so this is going to be where to buy a domain name, where to sell a domain name online. Now many of the questions like I mentioned in the introduction were, "Can I sell a domain fast?" You need to understand that in the marketplace of domains, this is again from my own experience, you have a tendency to invest in buying it and then you want to list it. You need to give it a few months to kind of work its way into the system. This is not something you're going to buy on a Monday and then flip it on a Friday and make it. That's not realistic to be honest with you. So you want to understand that if you want to build a business by doing this, it's just that it's going to take a little bit of time. Be patient. Learn as much as you can. Hopefully, this video is going to be very informative for you. But learn even more outside of the video that you're watching right now and understand that it's like a business. It takes time to start, develop, grow, and then make it work. Now in a moment, I said, I'm going to go over to my laptop. I'm going to show you what we've actually invested in. We have about 100 And think about 160 to 170 domains total. We have about two or three dozen of them right now on marketplaces, and I'll show you in a moment when we do that, that we have available for people to buy.

Now, here is the list. So let's go over step five: where can I buy and sell? Domain names? Let's do this. Number five is HostGator, followed by Wix, GoDaddy, Flipo, snapnames, and pseudo bizbuysell. eBay Name Cheap is another great one, by the way, where you can sell your domains online. They even have one called "Domain", which is actually pretty easy to remember. A domain is a great place to sell domains, brand buckets, ft, and afternoon tea. So the two specifically out of the list I just listed in order for you to sell domains online and make it a profitable business is really going to be GoDaddy for me. These go down and slip up. These are the two that are kind of like the biggest in that sense, but the most well known, my account specifically, is actually set up with GoDaddy. So I'm going to show you the domains that I have and also show you how we actually launched them on to the auction site itself. Now you might be thinking of eBay, so that's something you want to think about as well. I've actually noticed there are a lot of people who sell the domains on eBay. Just keep in mind, though, that eBay's platform is not set up to transfer the ownership of the actual domain. So that has to be done outside. Normally, you don't list it on there and then actually transfer it directly to eBay. So just keep that in mind. What's really cool about Flippa and GoDaddy when it comes to flipping and selling domain names is that they have the built-in ability to do that and through their automation through their platforms.

The actual transfer of ownership of the website has been completed. You get your money and such, so it's just a little bit more to it. So just keep that in mind, but of course, all of them that I just listed, you have the ability to sell on. Now, not every single website that I just listed is You can buy and sell and do both of those, but you can do it on Godaddy for sure. Wix is a great one as well. Weebly.com is another place where you can buy domain names and then flip them on GoDaddy or Flippa. So let's take a walk over and let me get my laptop out so I can show you the last little bit of this information to help you understand what you can do with your domain. All right, so here we've got ourselves into my account here on GoDaddy. I'm actually going to show you the listings for a handful of the actual domains that I currently have. And then I just got a notice that I have a domain called Leverage too.

Is it still profitable to flip domains?

Which is kind of affiliated with YouTube online with marketing. I'm actually getting ready to list that, so I'm going to walk you through this listing process in just a second. So here's a handful of the actual current domains that I have in the pricing. For instance, for this one I paid so far, I paid 1999 for the annual renewal. Now, just a quick reminder, I was going to tell you that if you keep these there and renew them every year, they will expire. What I love so much about GoDaddy is that there is an automated renewal feature that you can actually have set up for each domain. So every year when it goes to renew, it actually gives you about a four or five-day window to email you and say, hey, you've got certain domains that are about to expire, but they're going to renew automatically. Then they just debit my account and they renew it for each annual year. So that's something that's really cool about GoDaddy, just something from my own experience that I enjoy.

Is it still profitable to flip domains?

I don't have to necessarily keep paying that and overpaying over and over or do some separate transaction; it automates itself. So here's a handful more as I mentioned. This one was a daily insert again. Like I mentioned before, insurance. That's a huge industry. This was worth about 1500 bucks. I believe I paid so much around 1999. The same goes for this one dog pop. This is about some popcorn websites. It's a $1,300 domain. We're about to launch this one here e-comm monthly, which was a website. And I'm not going to sell this one in particular because it's actually some informative website about e-commerce. This one has a value of around 1200 bucks, and of course you go through here somewhere 700 900 $1,200 This one food top ten food truck freaks, I just launched. I am COMM This is about e-commerce. This one's worth about 1200 leverage, which, as I mentioned, has a potential value of 1300 bucks and so on. Man bars.

This was actually one I was going to build for protein bars for men. This one's available too, at 1300 and so on and so on. So you can actually take a look. $1,200 A lot of these are related to the food industry, as I mentioned, which is really cool too. So anything that you do as far as finance, money, or anything of that sort, make sure that it's something that can make people money, be informative, or educational, because websites like that are worth a lot more. This was new as well. snack.com Snack calm. This is worth about 1400-1200 for this one spicy corn website. So there's a handful right there of what we've got available. Let me walk you through how we do this. So we're going to list our domain.
